Google gibt Entwarnung: Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) läuft auch auf Smartphones mit Hardware-Buttons

Ein offizielles Google-Staement beantwortet die Frage, ob Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) auch auf Geräten mit Hardware-Buttons läuft.

Mit Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) und dem ICS-Flaggschiff Galaxy Nexus von Samsung verabschiedet sich Google unter anderem endgültig von Hardware-Buttons. Das wirft bei so manchem Smartphone-User die besorgte Frage auf: Funktioniert das neue Google-OS denn dann überhaupt mit meinem Smartphone mit den guten alten mechanischen Tasten? Google beschwichtigt und sagt: Ja, keine Sorge, alles funktioniert so, wie es soll.

Ein offizielles Statement von Google, das die Kollegen von gizmodo eingeholt haben, stellt klar: Keiner braucht sich zu sorgen. Wenn das Smartphone noch über Hardware Buttons verfügt, spart Android 4.0 die “Soft Keys” einfach aus:

“ICS does have onscreen buttons but not always. If there’s a device with hardware buttons the onscreen buttons won’t be there, and the hardware buttons will act and function as you’d expect them to…. back and home will function as you’d expect, the search button will query the search bar (as you’d expect), and the menu button will query the menu overflow in the action bar.”

Bleibt nur noch die Frage, welche Geräte denn auch mit einem Update rechnen können. Denn dass ein Handy theoretisch mit ICS umgehen kann, heißt ja noch lange nicht, dass es die Software praktisch auch bekommt. An dieser Stelle kommen wieder die Hersteller und Mobilfunkprovider ins Spiel.
